Calculations Tab
From Pray Times
You can adjust different parameters for calculating prayer times in this tab.
Calculation Method
There are several methods for calculating prayer times. You can select among default methods, or set your custom parameters.
- Method
- Choose the main calculation method. The list of available methods along with their specifications are provided at the Calculation Methods page.
- Fajr
- Set twilight angle for Fajr in degrees.
- Isha
- You can either set a twilight angle for Isha, or set it to a specified minutes after Maghrib.
- Maghrib
- You can either set a twilight angle for Maghrib, or set it to a specified minutes after Sunset.
- Midnight
- There are two main conventions for calculating Midnight: the standard method that computes Midnight as the mid time between Sunset to Sunrise. The second method (sometimes called juristic Midnight) calculated Midnight as the mid time between Sunset to Fajr.
Note: When you manually set Fajr or Isha, the calculation method is automatically changed to "Custom". However, changing Maghrib and Midnight has no effect on the selected calculation method.
Other Settings
You can adjust other time settings at this section.
- Imsak
- The time to stop eating Sahur for fasting, slightly before Fajr. You can either specify a twilight angle for Imsak, or set it to a few minutes before Fajr.
- Dhuhr
- Specify a margin for Dhuhr slightly after noon (see this note).
- Asr
- Set juristic method for Asr. You can select between Standard method (including Shafi'i, Maliki, Ja'fari, and Hanbali) and Hanafi method. In the Standard and Hanafi methods, the shadow length factor is 1 and 2, respectively. Two other shadow factors (i.e. 2/7 and 4/7) are also available, as suggested by some scholars in Jafari school.
- Adjust
- You can set the adjustment method for higher latitudes (i.e. locations with latitudes greater than 47 degrees). Information on the available adjustment methods is available here.
